This truly amazing horse has been on our property now for the past 6 months. He has done well, has picked up more weight, grown a nice wintercoat, given us hours of fun and shown us his speed... leaving others to eat the dust.
But he has done soooo much more.

A month after he arrived with us, a distraught friend called me to ask, if I knew of anybody, who would be able to do some "remedial horse riding" for her son.
Now, I am no physio, but with a background in psychology and having worked for years with kids with physical problems, and knowing about stretched finances I asked her to come out and try us first and see if her son would cope. They came ... and stayed.

The little guy was prem and has problems with self esteem and balance. So we put him on the pony, who turned out to be utterly uncooperative. And guess, this little man is riding BigE, once a week, doing all the normal things, the aeroplane, the merry go round, a tiny bit of trotting, etc.
His riding day has become special to him, as he - who battled to leave his mom - arrives, gets out of the car, grabs the carrots and runs to BigE. BigE walks up to this little guy, who barley reaches above his knee, lowers his head and very, very gently takes the offered carrot. BigE then continues to follow the little human around, who has the biggest beam on his face.
From sitting slumped forward this little boy is now sitting upstraight, courage increasing every time he rides, confidence much greater, eager to move fast on this big horse... and yes, he is going to proper remedial horse riding now..

I would not dare put a child on any of our "purchased" horses, who have not encountered too much trauma in their lives. BigE is the only choice, as his gentleness and kindness, his careful way and "humbleness" make him so userfriendly .... and I guess he understands - you get on his back and he will show you some real speed.
