"I *love* going to the HHCU. Everyone thinks it must be this sad, depressing place with beat up horses and miserable people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
As we got out of the car, we get greeted by Bev's pack of pavement specials - all WAY happy to see us Then the (glossy, healthy) horses & donkeys all look up and look pleased to see us .. and the stray cats that now live there come out to say hi with Bev. On the way in, we stop to say hello to the sweetest monster - a HUGE 17h TB who's in box rest for laminitis, poor boy - and he's just the cuddliest, sweetest horse... lots of lovvies. Then big howzit from Bobbie and Nadia and Ashley, and we sit and chat a bit and shoot the breeze before getting down to a business lunch.
It was a pleasure Judy6 - we are going to hold them more regularly, maybe every quarter. It was lovely to see how the horses and donkeys enjoyed all the treats!
Would love to come but im already commited to a walk for breast cancer at walkhaven! they do alot of fundraisers there and are always very busy! would you be interested in us looking into maybe setting one up for you? I am happy to contact them and ask them how we would go about it?
Hi Susan13 - sorry you feel like that, but I think you have the wrong end of the stick somehow. You are welcome to contact me if you need more information.
I do not understand why the animals cannot become my propperty ? I have the land, the food, love animals. I want to help, but I'm not going to allow you to just pitch up unannounced. I don't want to care for your animal, but my own. And I will certainly not allow you to dictate how I should care for my animals. Pitty ....
one would apply to our offices, or any of the regional SPCA's.
We look for someone with a matric, drivers license, a good knowledgeable horse background - a person who can deal with people well, and someone dedicated enough to work long hours for little pay. All of our inspectors are trained in-house. They have to study the law, equine management, and equine health. Unfortunately, although we need more staff, we just do not have the finances to pay anyone.
